LJR’s Thoughts for Dear Diary, My Dog is Not a Dog
My kiddos enjoyed this silly new picture book. We love a good mystery in this house and having the girl seek out clues to determine what kind of animal her dog actually is made for some silly laughs in this fun and funny picture book.
What I loved was the profound message about God’s identity that I don’t think the author even meant to have in the book! While this message was obvious to me and my husband, the kids noticed on a much simpler level – yet no less important than the one we noticed.
We loved this book and just wanted more of the story. Maybe more investigations and fun antics that lead to profound truths that children can understand.

Discipleship Opportunities
The two best things you can chat about with your kiddos is their identity in Christ and unique giftings. We don’t all have the same talents, skills, and abilities – much like the young girl’s dog. Below are several passages you can begin to dig into to discuss further.
- Our Identity in Christ: John 1:12; Genesis 1:27; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21; Galatians 4:1 – 7
- Having different gifts: Romans 12:6-8
- Being different parts of the body of Christ: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
