LJR’s Thoughts on Azmina the Gold Glitter Dragon

The idea of a girl turning into a dragon and becoming part of a forest-protecting trio has all the appeal a young reader could want. Like most fantasy, there is a hint of magic; however, this book specifically has mentions of charms, chants, and crystal balls so you’ll want to know about that ahead of time. There’s a great lesson to be learned about working together. If you decide these books are right for your family, I definitely recommend reading them along with your young reader so you can take advantage of some worthwhile discipleship time.

Noteworthy

Magic: Azmina hears a chant that she eventually says to herself. It acts as an incantation, which turns her into a dragon. The forest is also mentioned as “Magic,” and the other dragons are mentioned as having been summoned the same way as Azmina. A “magic apple” acts as a crystal ball and another is used as a bowl to hold an ancient potion. The dragons also use a travel charm and say a chat near the end of the book.
Violent/Intense Scenes: A dragon briefly plummets toward the earth and another falls down almost landing in a volcano. It is mild in the intensity of the scene though so this was one of my lesser concerns about the book.

Discipleship Opportunities

Azmina turns into a dragon after what is essentially a spell. The Bible has something to say about witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:9-12.
Just as the glitter dragons work together in this story, the Bible talks about the body of believers working together, each doing their part (1 Corinthians 12: 12-27; Romans 12:4 – 8).
At one part, the girls are told to trust themselves. The Bible mentions often to “Trust in the Lord” (Proverbs 3:5-6, 28:25, 29:25) and even what happens when we don’t trust in the Lord (Dueteronomy 1:26-36).
