A Voyage in the Clouds by Matthew Olshan
A Voyage in the Clouds is best summed up by its subtitle: The (Mostly) True Story of the First International Flight by Balloon in 1785.
John Jeffries, an Englishman, and Jean-Pierre Blanchard, a Frenchman, set out across the English Channel to make the first international flight by balloon.
But what happens when two men don’t get along and one of them makes a mistake that causes the balloon to drop?

LJR’s Thoughts
A Voyage in the Clouds is an adorably illustrated and funny (mostly) historical picture book. Your kids will laugh and enjoy the story. This would also be a great book to use if you’re studying European history. I personally love hearing unknown stories of history and thinking about what major historical events might have been going on around the same time.

Considerations for Blizzard
In our usual LJR fashion, we try to find anything that Christian families may want to know about ahead of time to address, skip, or dig deeper into. Take a look at what we found below. Our take on Discipleship Opportunities is at the bottom of the review.
- Positive Behavior: The main characters learn to work together despite starting the voyage disliking one another.
- Negative Behavior: none
- Language: none
- Violence/Intense Scenes: none
- Religion/Spirituality: none
- Racism/Discrimination: none
- Romance/Sexuality/Nudity: Little. The two men are seen in their underwear but their underwear appear like a tank top shirt and shorts.
Discipleship Opportunities
Given the primary issue in the book, studying how to be at peace with each other, bearing with each other and forgiving each other, as discussed in Colossians 3:13-17.
